What if health was not the absence of disease, but rather a beautiful and delicate balance between mind, body and spirit?

This is the philosophy of Ayurveda, a 5,000 year-old holistic medicine system from India. Ayurveda teaches us to become aware of ourselves by discovering what creates balance and ease for our unique individual makeup. The goal is fulfillment through health—and this can be achieved through proper diet, exercise, lifestyle and routine.

In this series, Loribeth takes us on a journey of self inquiry and understanding through the lens of this nature-based science, Ayurveda. You’ll learn how to discern for yourself what’s best to keep you joyful, balanced, and in harmony so you have the time, energy, and ability to live your purpose.

About the Teacher

Loribeth Cohen, PT, CAP, IMT-C has been treating patients as a physical therapist since 1989 and opened re:fit in 1999 to offer people a more comprehensive approach to rehabilitation. In 2013, she received her certification as an Ayurvedic Practitioner from Kerala Ayurveda Academy and has since incorporated these eastern practices into her patient care. Loribeth appreciates that Ayurveda empowers people to listen to their body rhythms so they can detect acute imbalances and resolve them on their own. Ayurveda allows people to catch themselves “going off the path” far before the imbalance turns into a diagnosis. Importantly, Loribeth helps patients put wellness into context of who they are and what makes them whole, so it can be a path toward living a deeply meaningful life.

"An investment in self care that informs and inspires"

The Ayurveda Series led me through a journey of self awareness. I now know how to tailor my choices to a healthier balanced lifestyle. I have a better appreciation and understanding of eating, digestion, sleep and exercise habits. Even my mental health has been positively affected.
Loribeth has a true passion for healing and a vast knowledge of Ayurvedic principles. She inspires those around her to reach for their optimal health and well being. I highly recommend this class series. It's an investment in self care that informs and inspires.

"The information was so insightful, compelling and relevant"

I wish I had learned about Ayurvedic wisdom years ago. Ayurveda acknowledges how each person has their own path for healthy eating, sleeping and exercise. It explains how our past and present affect our physiology, and how our sense organs can detect imbalance, even if we are not conscious about it. Loribeth takes a complex subject and makes it FUN to learn. I felt an urge to take notes because the information was so insightful, compelling and relevant. Now I need to go find my dry brush!

What's Inside

Part 1: Working with the Mind

60 minute video + pdf slide deck

The mind has a physiological effect on how the body feels. As such, the more we can eliminate stressors in our life, the better we will feel. Part 1 develops the context and foundation for the rest of the course. We discuss the more subtle levels of health combining mind and body, how to live harmoniously with nature through Ayurveda, and what can get in the way.

Part 1 topics include:

  • The causes of dis-ease and suffering
  • The physiology of stress
  • The goals of life
  • Paths of healing

Part 2: Understanding Your Constitution

69 minute video + pdf slide deck + body constitution questionnaire

Just like nature, we’re made up of the same elements (or bioenergies) as all other living beings: space, water, earth, fire, and air. Each one of us has a unique constitution of these, known as our “Prakriti” or dosha: Vata, Pitta, Kapha, or a combination . In addition to the video lesson, Part 2 includes our Body Constitution Questionnaire for you to discover or learn more about your Prakriti.

Part 2 topics include:

  • Qualities of the elements
  • Qualities and functions of the doshas
  • Doshic tendencies and imbalances in relation to energy, appetite, digestion, elimination, sleep, sweat, and the sense organs

Part 3: Establishing Supportive Routines

78 minute video + pdf slide deck

Health can be regarded as a state of ease—ease of motion, ease of thought, and ease of living. As we fall into dis-ease, we have a harder time. Interestingly, Ayurveda considers 6 stages of dis-ease, and it’s not until stage 6 that someone receives a diagnosis. So how do we stay in balance, strengthen immunity, and live with ease? Through daily routine.

Part 3 topics include:

  • Stages of dis-ease
  • Daily self check-in
  • Daily routine: activities, purpose, how to perform them, and best practices for your dosha

Part 4: Attuning Your Exercise

84 minute video (2 parts) + pdf slide deck

In Ayurveda, the goal of exercise is more than building muscle mass. It’s also to balance the many different tissue layers, allow the body to become light, increase internal heat, and open channels to remove blockages. In Part 4 we use Ayurveda and yogic principles to discuss exercise for the modern times and for your unique makeup.

Part 4 topics include:

  • Exercise recommendations for each dosha
  • Exercise considerations for age and seasons
  • Learning about the Oov

Part 5: Finding Your Balance with Food

91 minute video (2 parts) + pdf slide deck + spices for cooking pdf handout

What we eat is important, but also how we eat, when we eat, and where we eat each impact our health and wellbeing. In Part 5, we look at the many facets of the process of eating and how to find balance. The goal? To make appetite and digestion healthy, and to produce ojas (vitality) and reduce ama (toxins).

Part 5 topics include:

  • How to eat, when to eat and where to eat
  • Suggestions for improving digestion
  • The six tastes relates to the elements, doshas and tissues
  • Food combining do’s and don’ts
  • Balanced meal suggestions
